The Seven Scourges
THE SEVEN SCOURGES
There was a time when the peoples of the world were bent more towards the Rogon than Kinoingan and that they were on their way to forgetting His existence. Kinoingan was very distressed by this development. He must do something not only to teach them but also to remind them of His loving concern for them and hence the following Seven Scourges upon the earth took place.
From the Heavens then were descended the following Seven Scourges upon the fallen earth:
1. The First Scourge: The War over the lost Tataba & Kolian Tree
2. The Second Scourge: The Plague (Rapit)
3. The Third Scourge: The Migration (Minogiurias)
4. The Fourth Scourge: The Locusts (Minonombilalang)
5. The Fifth Scourge: The Deluge (Minoluyud-pogolumpadang)
6. The Sixth Scourge: The Drought (Minabpagadau)
7. The Seventh Scourge: The (Seedlessness) Famine
After the Sixth Scourge manifested in a long drought, there was not a seed left for the people to plant and a great famine began to beset the world. People were beginning to die of hunger but still they were slow to return to Kinoingan for help. Meanwhile, Kinoingan’s daughter Ponompuan was crying with deep sympathy for the people who have suffered so much as a result of the seven scourges exacted upon them by Her Father.
Kinoingan too knew to well that if he did not come to rescue the people at that point in time they would be no more survivors from the famine. For even if He were to send down the rains and provided seeds for the people to plant, real harvesting of the fruits of their labour will still be months away.
Time was of the essence. He remembered that the people of Nunuk Ragang had sacrificed their own parents to appease Him and cleanse themselves of their forebearers’ sins as well as of their own sins. He was moved with great pity and love for them. He had to redeem them from seedlessness and the impending annihilating famine. Most of all He had to show them the greatest love of all.
