KOTA KINABALU: The Kadazandusun Cultural Centre (KDCA) has set up the Huguan Siou Foundation (HSF).
According to KDCA president cum Deputy Chief Minister and Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, the HSF was one of the main pre-requisites for the setting up of KDCA’s own educational institutions and funding for its socio-cultural heritage development.
“With the globalising world, where we may differ in politics, religions and views, we, Kadazandusun must rise above our differences and move to involve and empower all strata of our community, that together we may realise the power of our common dreams and progress ever onwards as 1Kadazandusun,” he said at the KDCA awards presentation and signing of the HSF Deed of Trust on Thursday.
At the same time, Pairin also mentioned the contributions of KDCA’s pioneers, leaders and members into making what the association was today.
He also said since its inception in the 1950s and registration in 1966, KDCA, like any other cultural organisation, had come a long way to be what it was today as a result of individuals, spoken words, shared thoughts, sacrificial contributions and collective actions.
He added that they decided to seriously look into the KDCA Illustrious Awards for the association’s past and present leaders who had greatly contributed to the cause of KDCA since the time of the Society of Kadazans, in 1950s.
He said the award served as a reminder of the many people who had sacrificed and contributed in many forms and ways towards making KDCA a reality and to build it to what it is today.
Among the recipients of the first KDCA Illustrious Award were the late Tun Fuad Stephens and Datuk Darius Binion.
During the event, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau provided a sponsorship for the publication of a reference book on Kadazandusunology and Rinaits.
